EX NL – explosion-protected LED emergency luminaire with integrated battery backup for EX Zone 1, 2, 21 and 22
The EX NL LED emergency luminaire is a reliable and robust solution for emergency lighting in hazardous areas. Equipped with an integrated battery backup system, it ensures safe illumination of workspaces and safety-critical areas even in the event of a mains power failure.
Certified for use in ATEX Zones 1, 2, 21 and 22, the EX NL is designed for demanding applications in the chemical, petrochemical, offshore and process industries. Thanks to modern LED technology, the luminaire offers a long service life and low maintenance requirements.
Depending on the application, the EX NL emergency luminaire is available in either a Non-Maintained or a Maintained (Switchable) version.
Two operating modes for different requirements
Non-Maintained Emergency Luminaire
In the non-maintained version, the EX NL remains switched off during normal operation. The luminaire is used exclusively for emergency lighting and automatically switches on when the mains power supply fails. This version is particularly suitable for areas where emergency lighting is only required in the event of an emergency.

Maintained / Switchable Emergency Luminaire
The maintained version offers additional flexibility. In addition to the permanent power supply required for battery charging, monitoring and control electronics, the luminaire can be switched on and off via a switched live conductor. In the event of a mains power failure, the emergency lighting function is activated automatically, regardless of whether the luminaire was previously switched on or off.
This allows the EX NL to be used during normal operation as:
- Task lighting
- Inspection lighting
- Night-time lighting
- Maintenance lighting

The integrated battery system is continuously charged and monitored. If the mains power supply fails, the battery automatically takes over, ensuring that the required emergency lighting remains available even under demanding conditions. The rugged die-cast aluminium housing with borosilicate glass provides excellent resistance to mechanical impacts, corrosion and chemical exposure, making the EX NL an ideal ATEX emergency luminaire for hazardous areas.
