Work lights 360° round beam with ex-protection

LED work lights for hazardous areas. Our explosion-proof LED work light with 360° illumination (omnidirectional) and waterproof IP68 housing ensures optimal lighting for service and inspection work, e.g. tank and silo cleaning.

AREAS OF APPLICATION - explosion-proof, omnidirectional work lights

The 360-degree illumination ensures even lighting in all directions, clearly illuminating even the darkest corners. This makes our work light the ideal choice for service and cleaning work in narrow containers such as tanks or silos. Whether you need to perform inspections, perform maintenance or perform cleaning tasks, our light provides you with the clear visibility and reliability you need to complete your tasks effectively and safely.

  • Tanker cleaning
  • Silo cleaning
  • Working in sewer and sewage treatment plants
  • Cleaning of chemical containers

FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions about KIRA 360° EX work lights

Which ex-proof lighting is suitable for tank and silo cleaning?

For tank and silo cleaning, explosion-proof, omnidirectional LED work lights are required to provide uniform, shadow-free illumination. 360° lights such as the EX 5018 ensure that even hard-to-reach areas are fully illuminated and no dark zones remain. At the same time, they are approved for EX zones (1, 2, 21, 22), making them suitable for gas and dust atmospheres. A high protection rating (IP68) is also essential, as the lights are exposed to water, dirt, and mechanical stress during cleaning operations.

How do you safely illuminate confined, potentially explosive spaces?

Confined spaces require lighting that:

  • does not present an ignition source (ATEX certification)
  • operates without glare
  • provides uniform illumination throughout the entire space

360° LED lights with diffuser film produce homogeneous, glare-free light and reduce harsh shadows, which are problematic in confined vessels. For maximum safety, low-voltage versions (e.g. 24 V) are often used.

Which ATEX luminaires are suitable for inspections in wastewater treatment plants, tank and silo cleaning systems, or chemical plants?

In these environments, luminaires must:

  • be approved for EX zones
  • be resistant to moisture and harsh conditions
  • operate reliably over long periods

EX LED luminaires such as the KE-LED-EX 5018 are specifically designed for these applications and are typically used in areas like wastewater treatment plants, biogas facilities, or petrochemical plants.
The IP68 protection rating ensures reliable operation even under heavy moisture or temporary submersion.

What is the advantage of a 360° omnidirectional ex-proof work light?

The key advantage is complete and uniform illumination of the work area.

In contrast to directional spotlights:

  • no shadow zones are created
  • the entire space is illuminated simultaneously
  • the need to position multiple lights is reduced

The result is a more homogeneous working environment, especially in tanks or shafts..

What is the difference between an EX handheld lamp and an EX tubular light?

The difference lies primarily in the application:

  • EX handheld lamp: mobile use, with handle and suspension hook, suitable for inspection and flexible deployment
  • EX tubular light: designed for fixed or temporary installation, ideal for uniform area lighting, often combined with accessories such as silo suspension systems

Technically (light output, protection rating, EX certification), both variants are often identical.

What IP rating is required for wet areas?

For demanding wet environments, at least IP68 is required. IP68 means: dust-tight and permanently waterproof (including temporary submersion). This level of protection is essential in cleaning operations or inside containers to avoid failures and safety risks.

Which ex-proof work light is ideal for tank cleaning?

Ideal solutions include:

  • 360° omnidirectional EX lights
  • IP68-protected models
  • approved for Zone 1/2 and 21/22

The KE-LE-EX 5018 was specifically developed for such applications and provides uniform illumination of large areas while ensuring high safety in explosive environments.

24V or 230V – which is better in EX areas?

This is not purely a performance issue, but a matter of safety and application:

  • 24V: low voltage increases electrical safety, preferred in confined or conductive environments
  • 230V: useful for longer cable runs or when existing infrastructure is available

Many EX luminaires are deliberately available in both versions to cover different use cases.

Can explosionproof lights be used under water?

This depends on the protection rating. Lights with IP68 are designed for temporary submersion and can be operated underwater under appropriate conditions. Important: Actual suitability depends on duration, depth, and certification, and must be verified for each specific application.

Are these 360° EX lights maintenance-free?

No, they are not completely maintenance-free. However, modern LED EX luminaires offer a very long service life (e.g. >50,000 hours). This results in low failure rates and reduced maintenance requirements. Nevertheless, regular visual inspections, cable checks, and verification of EX certification remain necessary.
